Red Bull Soapbox Race 2008 in San Francisco
64
In 2008, the Red Bull Soapbox Race was held in San Francisco on Saturday, October 18! This competitively fun race took place in Dolores Park and featured over 30 amateur racers. The starting line was at the intersection of Dolores Street and 21st Street, the finish line was on Dolores Street and 19th Street, and the pits were on 20th Street between Dolores and Church Streets. Pit row was open to racers and their pit crew for some final tweaking and to the public who wanted to view the cars before the races started!
Judgment on the race was based on four aspects:
-
Quality of performance
-
Speed
-
Creativity of the vehicle
-
Showmanship
As with all Red Bull Soapbox races, the event was free and attracted tons of Bay Area residents and tourists alike, boosting the local economy. Food and beverage stands were scattered throughout the park, which advertised local tastes and flavors, as well as traditional carnival-style treats!
